You can reduce the stress of the upcoming holidays by doing your Christmas shopping early. Why fight the crowds and stand in line, when you can shop from the comfort of your own home. I don't know about you but I would rather visit the dentist than go to the after Thanksgiving sales. What a nightmare! Anyone who has done it knows what I am talking about.

Labor Day Signals the End of Summer

Well here it is the last waning days of summer. School is back in session and Labor Day is upon us. Labor Day brings a goodbye to summer and an anticipation for things ahead like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Labor Day is actually a holiday for workers. It signifies the economic and social gains workers have made.

In most countries Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st and is called May Day. It orginated with a movement for the 8 hour day. Eight hours for work, eight hours for play and eight hours for sleep.

Anway it is a great holiday. You don't have to cook a large meal, dress up or buy gifts. So if you think that is a plus it's the holiday for you! Personally I like it.

Do You Believe In Santa Claus?

I can't really remember ever believing in Santa Claus. To the best of my recollection I always knew Mom, Dad and the Grandparents were really Santa Claus. However, I did know some children who had a firm belief in the jolly old fat man.

Some people don't like the myth of Santa Claus. Some feel it detracts from the religious meaning of the holiday. Others believe it is not right to tell your children a story about a stranger bringing gifts to all good little boys and girls when they know it is a lie. Still others believe Santa is just a symbol of commercialism representing the commercialization of Christmas.

Personally, I don't see the harm in a little belief in the magical. At least for the time when you still can believe in such things. The harsh realities of life will come soon enough. Who can resist smiling at the way a child's face lights up at the sight of Santa? What can be wrong in that?

You Can Never Start Christmas Shopping Too Early

This year Christmas is on Thursday. There are 120 shopping days left until Christmas. I beleive in early Christmas Shopping to avoid the crowds. I have things I have bought during the year stuffed everywhere. I hide them in closets and chests and sometimes in the garage, depending on how big the gift.

The down side to this is I have found things hidden away I had completely forgotten. I might come across them the next July and think "Oh I forgot I had that!" But then I am just a little ahead for that year I guess.

I love to do my Christmas shopping early. I hate crowded stores and frenzied last minute shopping trips! Christmas is supposed to be the time of love and peace, but I find many people to be very rude during the Christmas season, especially when trying to grab the last Elmo on the shelf. I can do without it.

I do love the Christmas holiday, however. Some of my best childhood memories are of Christmas time. I can remember the house being filled with the smell of my Grandmother's Christmas cookies. She also made divine Coconut Balls. They just melted in your mouth. We didn't get a lot of toys and gifts but we always got something we wanted. It was a great time.
