I remember those wonderful fall days of my childhood filled with the smells and sounds of autumn. The trees wearing their new coats of blazing color, the air crisp and cool. Coming home to the smell of freshly baked apple pie. The most exciting thing about fall was without a doubt Halloween. We always looked forward to picking out a costume and getting ready to go trick or treating. During this time of anticipation we always settled down one night in front of the television to watch Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. Those lovable Peanuts holiday cartoons have a become a beloved part of my childhood memories. The characters indeliably etched into my mind are as warm and familiar as any childhood friend. Who could forget Linus convincing Sally to skip tricks or treats and wait for the Great Pumpkin in the pumpkin patch. And Snoopy sneaking out across the dark forest to battle the Red Baron atop his doghouse. Good ol Charlie Brown who exclaims after every house "I got a rock". And then later at the party Lucy uses Charlie Brown's head to diagram her Jack O'Lantern. Later Snoopy exacts revenge for Charlie by kissing Lucy while bobbing for apples, leading her to exclaim "Aack I've been kissed by a dog!" Just seeing the cartoon on even today brings back all those childhood memories. The sights, the smells and your family all gathered together.
